Performing Arts
The main focus of the Performing Arts Program is to extend our students' skills, knowledge and enjoyment. The program is designed to encourage active participation, creativity and enjoyment.
In Dance students explore the language of movement using the body to explore various movements and feelings.
In Drama students explore ideas through improvision and acting.
In Media Studies students have opportunities to use various electronic equipment to record representations of real or imagined experiences and will explore how these experiences can be portrayed through film and other media.
Students will also have the opportunity to join the school choir.
In Music, students use voices, instruments and other objects to compose, improvise and perform. Students have weekly 45 minute sessions.
Many students at school also participate in our Tutor Music Programs which offer tuition in piano, violin, keyboard or guitar.
Performing Arts Extension Opportunities
Dance club
Dance club is an opportunity for students to extend their performance knowledge through movement. Students will be exposed to the elements of dance and given skills and techniques to enhance their movement. During dance club students will experience the dance making process of improvisation as well as planning their own dance works through choreography. They will be exposed to various styles of dance and will be able to apply this knowledge to their own dance works. Students will be given opportunities to perform their work to others and learn important dance preparation, including warming up, using movement across a range of body parts and using controlled breathing.
Mini Movers
Mini Movers provides our younger students with a fun and exciting dance experience. They will be encouraged to use various body parts for movement, learn simple dance routines and gain a greater understanding of how their body moves. Students will also be given the opportunity to express themselves through movement.
Choir
The choir provides an opportunity for students to perform for others in a fun and creative environment. Students will be encouraged to perform songs of various genres as well as learning about accompanying music to enhance a performance. The choir is a further extension of the music program being completed in Performing Arts sessions.
A whole of school musical/concert is held biannually to further enhance the performing arts learning program.
