Japanese All students from Prep to Year 6 learn Japanese, our Language Other Than English (LOTE). The students have one 45 minute lesson per week. Japanese is often integrated with classroom learning. Japanese assistants and visitors enrich the programme by providing opportunities for cultural exchange, and by modelling authentic language. Families at the school have many opportunities to host Japanese visitors. Since 1998 four groups of GWSPS students have travelled to Japan on school trips, and been hosted by Shonai Elementary School, situated in Ehime Prefecture (Shikoku). A bi-annual Japanese Festival, during which students take part in a variety of cultural activities, is a highlight of the school year.
